The popularity of PTE has increased significantly lately, especially amongst students looking to pursue higher education in Australia. Just like any other English language proficiency exam, PTE also gauges the candidate’s proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
Herein, we discuss some quick tips that can help the candidates improve their performance in the writing section of the PTE exam.
The writing section is combined with the speaking module in the PTE exam and the candidate gets about 54-67 minutes to attempt both these modules. In the writing module, the candidate is required to answer short questions, write an essay and summarize the written text. Needless to say, you can make the most of this section if you attempt it correctly.
Improve Your Typing Speed
This is an obvious one. The quicker you are, the better it is for you. Firstly, if you do not know how to type, learn typing; it does not take much time. Regular practice can help you achieve good typing speed, which, in turn, is going to help you in attempting the writing section more quickly and effectively.
If you already know how to type, improve your speed. Get better at it and try to minimize errors. Once you are in the exam hall, you will see that good typing speed straightaway puts you over and above others.
Work on Vocabulary, Grammar and Sentence Formation
Working on vocabulary, grammar, and sentence formation can add quality to your write-ups. When writing an essay, having a good level of vocabulary can help a great deal, as it can change the way the essay sounds.
Correct sentence formation along with correct use of grammar again adds weightage to the essay, short questions, and written text.
Overall, carrying a nice set of words (vocabulary) in your armour will only help on the day of the exam. Perfect grammar and sentence formation will add class to the write-ups!
Hone Your Proofreading Skills
Never underestimate the importance of proofreading. We have come across many students who end up making silly mistakes in their essays only to repent later. Candidates tend to hurry through the tests and think of saving time by avoiding proofreading their write-up. We do not recommend doing so!
Instead, we encourage all the candidates to hone their proofreading skills and proofread their write-ups thoroughly.
Practice Mock Tests
To improve the PTE Academic writing score, one of the best exercises is to attempt as many PTE practice tests as possible. Almost all the PTE coaching institutes provide PTE free mock tests for all the modules. Students are encouraged to practice as many tests as possible to get on top of anything and everything that gets on their way in the exam.
We also suggest students practice writing essays on MS WordPad initially and then check their write-ups over MS Word for checking spelling and grammar.
Be Confident
We have observed that under-confident students generally get confused even if they know the answer correctly. This is the reason we ask the students to be confident when going into the exam hall. However, there is a very thin line between being confident and over-confident, and we counsel students to avoid being latter during the PTE exam.
Being confident will bring more ideas during the exam and help you get through it more quickly.
Although there are no guarantees to anything, we still assure you that adhering to the aforementioned PTE tips and tricks can help you improve your score in the Writing module. Just follow these tips and you will surely be on your way to scoring great in your PTE exam.
